sherlock is chiefly skilled in deduction. this includes knowing a bit about a person from observing them-- their neuroses based on verbal or physical ticks, their job or class based on the way they move their hands, what they might be inclined to lie about. none of this is supernatural; everything he discovers has a logical, real-world basis that he has observed.

how does this concern you? basically, tell me what's obvious about your character at a glance! or perhaps what is less obvious, but that one might be able to discern if they were paying attention. alternatively, is there anything you don't want sherlock to be able to figure out? let me know that here, as well.

this can also be used for general plotting should the need arise.

feel free to deduce the hell out of him :>

i think the most obvious for sherlock would be that he's done all of this before to great effect (the posturing for an audience, the carefree act in general) so there's an ease to what he does. no hesitation on what to say or what to do in a social setting.

the slightly less obvious would be that zelos is not as unbothered by all this as he acts from the occasional times he drops that facade. inside the games, this will probably be even more obvious, given his holding back from outright killing people.

and the much less obvious is how much he hates being here because this is literally being the chosen of tethe'alla all over again except worse because now he almost feels guilty about doing all this crap since he's met lloyd and co. like he's letting him down by not actively trying to help every person he comes across the way they tend to. the hate part might be deduced after some time, but the guilt? is very much in denial.

...i think that's all i have at this moment. may add more later if it becomes relevant!

Deduct away, dude. Karkat is a short adolescent insectoid alien who swears a lot. He moves like someone who's had to spend their life fighting. He acts a lot like an asshole, but prolonged observance will show he's not as much an asshole as he acts.

He's spent most of his life buying into a system even more corrupt than Panem, but he's very quietly starting to question that shit.

OH RIGHT. Forgot to say about what he'd deduct if he came across him in the current arena, which is that he'd see Karkat's non-dominant arm in a homemade sling and bandages and it might very well be possible for Sherlock to deduce that he got shoulder-stabbed.

Deduct away!

Sherlock will probably be able to notice that Venus is going through some kind of medication withdrawal right now - in her case, mood stabilizers. She's been trying to pass it off as just a result of being tired and cranky and having an infected leg, but if Sherlock knows the symptoms of infection well and sees how Venus' don't really line up with them (shaking, clumsiness with her extremities, easily distracted, tears up at the drop of a hat, evident nausea), he can probably put it together.

On the note of the infected leg! She got a chunk bitten out of her thigh by another human. She very purposefully walks in a way that downplays the limp, but again, wouldn't be surprised if Sherlock noticed this, or that she has swelling all the way down to her ankle. She's also got broken ribs and a slash across her face, which has been stitched by someone who is evidently an amateur.

Finally, Sherlock will probably be able to put together that Venus is extremely competent. Aside from the fact that she's still walking around with a bunch of injuries that are, at this point, several weeks old, she carries herself like a superhero and is always subtly scanning the room. She also has the build of an athlete.

Accent is American (Southern), body language tends to be open and calculatedly attractive and flirty.

- trained in hand-to-hand combat since he was about eight years old, and very good at it. He stands and moves with a general sense of excellent body awareness, very athletic in a gymnast sort of way.

- hearing impairment, relies heavily on lipreading. So he looks at lips rather than making eye contact, visually examines places when he enters, faces people he's talking to. When not in the Arena he tends to have loud music playing through earbuds.

- accent is vaguely Southern, mostly typical American. Very slight speech impairment (lisp and slur) because of hearing problems. Volume tends to be slightly louder than is socially acceptable.

- vocabulary is unremarkable, he doesn't go out of his way to pull out complicated words. Speech patterns are fairly formal, avoids contractions and addresses people by their titles, generally uses sir/ma'am.

- tone tends to be somewhat patronizing or sarcastic, he generally views himself as above other people.

- tends to space out completely when other people are talking to him, like he doesn't want to waste his time listening to them. Basically he just doesn't care about people in general.

- when not in the Arena he tries to wear priest robes which are Catholic-inspired but also obviously not Catholic. Usually the stylists stick him in something else, but his outfits do tend to have a vaguely clerical feel to them.

- he does a lot of desk work back home, filling out handwritten forms, hand writing letters, that sort of thing, which might be noticed based on callouses or something. No indication of holding a weapon to fight.

- intentionally distances himself from people by using a combination of constant headphones, snarky/mocking comments, and general disinterest in everything.

- Arena 09 is basically a perfect storm for him. His mental state isn't exactly stable normally, and he's prone to hallucinations and delusions. This Arena, that psychosis was set off and enhanced by the Initiate's fear powers, and loss of impulse control that came from using the masks too much. Disordered thinking, hallucinations, and paranoia are all affecting him right now, and probably will affect him in similar Arenas in the future.

Deduce him like one of your French Girls, Holmes!

- Extensive training in sneaking, hand-to-hand, and lying like a rug since late childhood, and he's in his early-twenties now. He makes regular use of all these skills in his day-to-day life
- Weird accent, Lyle's native language doesn't even EXIST from Sherlock's perspective
- Upper-class background, works to stave off boredom/get attention. Aside from the sneaking/lying/fighting, he does a lot of dexterous work with his hands (chemistry and engineering, though I don't know if Sherlock can get that specific)
- Very intelligent and aware of his surroundings, and is probably picking up information on Sherlock right back (though not as much as Sherlock is getting off him)
- Simultaneously very secretive and desirous of other people's attention. Some of his attention-getting behaviors are being put-on, but there's an underlying need for independent verification of his existence
- When his friends/team come up in conversation, it's clear he thinks the world of them
- No sexual interest in women. High sexual interest in teammate/fellow Tribute Brainiac 5, but they're dancing around that. Has definitely checked Sherlock out. Comfortable with his sexuality in a way that suggests that homophobia isn't a problem he's had to face, nor expects to face
- When it comes up, the subject of his reality not existing anymore is still very painful, but not cripplingly so. It happened a couple years ago and he's sought professional help to deal with it, but ow.

PM me if you think there's other stuff he might pick up! I'll add stuff as I think of it/it becomes relevant

I figured I should probably post here to help you

Um well obviously it doesn't take a genius to work out Ian is drunk and stoned in our thread

Even though he's drunk and therefore swaying etc Sherlock can probably tell he's a fighter/very fit

He can probably also tell hes not as confident as he pretends to be and might be able to pick up that he's generally unhappy/angry

His accent is from Chicago
